Longboard Buying Guide: Washers
Use the right washers to get the best performance out of your bushings.
In order to complete your new bushing configuration, you’ll need to secure the bushings using some washers on both ends.
Barrel & Cone ("Standard") Bushing Combo
For a standard bushing combo we suggest using a large cupped washer to hold the barrel bushing in place, and a small cupped washer to hold the cone bushing in place. Cupped washers grip the bushings and reduce the "slop" in the turn. Simple as that! You’ll need a total of two large cupped washers and two small cupped washers for your board.
Double Barrel Bushing Combo
For a double barrel bushing combo you’ll want to use two large cups beneath your boardside barrel bushings and two flat washers on the outer end of your roadside bushings. If this setup feels a bit too soft, then replace the two flat washers with two large cupped washers for more restriction. You’ll need a total of four large cupped washers and two flat washers for your double barrel bushing combo.
Barrel & Stepped Bushing Combo
For a barrel and stepped bushing combo we’d suggest that you use flat washers beneath the boardside stepped bushings, and cupped or flat washers on the outer end of your roadside barrel bushings. Cupped washers will not work with stepped bushings. You’ll need four flat washers and two large cupped washers for your barrel and stepped bushing combo.
Super-Tech Bushing Combo
If you’re gonna get super technical (or asymmetrical) with your bushing setups, just remember that it is wise to have one flat washer and one large cupped washer for each barrel bushing, one small cup washer for each cone, and one flat washer per stepped bushing. Remember: Cupped washers do not work with stepped bushings!
Double Cone Bushing Combo
For a double cone bushing combo we suggest that you use a small cupped washer to hold both cone bushings in place. Cupped washers grip the bushings and reduce the "slop" in the turn. Simple as that! You’ll need a total of four small cupped washers for your board.
Insert bushing are short cone bushings with an integrated ("built in") washer on the outside. When using these bushing we suggest adding small cupped washers to the roadside bushings.
